MYTHRIL Blessing of Light

A warm light shines from the Spire. You cannot help but feel at peace.
“In time’s flow, see the glow, of flames ever burning bright.
On the swift, river’s drift, broken memories alight.”

A little Nocturne shook the last remnants of her shell off of her tiny wings, chirping excitedly. Her parents looked on, smiling, but their jaws dropped when she opened her eyes. They were faceted like a gemstone, a brilliant yellow, like a topaz or citrine. Her eyes looked like they belonged in the Lightweaver’s gemstone collection. The young Nocturne sat up and attempted to stand, and toppled over, as her parents called over the leader of the clan the Nocturne was born into. The dragon observed her beautiful faceted eyes and concluded she must have been born with a strong connection to the Lightweaver.

As time went on, the Nocturne demonstrated levels of elemental affinity usually only demonstrated by the some of dragonkind’s strongest mages, and second only to dragons born with Primal eyes, their eyes shining so bright eye contact was out of the question. She had difficulties controlling it, and sometimes accidentally made the star patterns on her body and wings glow so bright other hatchlings would squeak and run away. Leaves and twigs would burst into flame if she got angry or happy or sad, due to how brightly she would shine. Other hatchlings shunned her out of fear and some of the adult dragons of the clan began to speak in hushed tones about her.

Within time, one by one, hatchlings in her age group began to get adopted by traveling dragon clans passing by. Many a dragon passed by the Nocturne, casting worried glances as nearby grass caught on fire due to the Nocturne hatchling being excited about the visitors. Soon, all of the hatchlings had left the nursery except for her. One day, a dragon named Autumnus came to pay a visit to his mother, Bluebell. Bluebell was nesting on a clutch of eggs near the nursery, so the Nocturne peeked out from behind a tree. The bark singed a little - she wasn’t expecting a new home anyways. Autumnus noticed her and asked his mother why there was only one hatchling in the nursery. Bluebell explained that she had a huge affinity for Light and most travelers were too worried to take her with them. Autumnus approached the Nocturne and observed her bright gemstone eyes with fascination. The Nocturne had not had anyone look at her quite like that, with something other than fear and worry. Autumnus immediately made a decision.

“I’ll take her with me.” He said to his mother. Bluebell was quite surprised, but took Autumnus and the hatchling to see the clan’s leader.
“Are you sure? She may be dangerous to your clan.” The dragon said. “Especially since you’re the King of Fall - she may set the dead leaves on fire.”
“I’m sure. Beacon will raise her well.” Autumnus said resolutely, tapping the Nocturne’s head lightly with one wing.

He took her back to the clan to see Beacon, who was working in the top floor of the Spire. He noticed them coming in and raised his head.
“Autumnus? It’s unlike you to wander out and come back with a hatchling. That’s Laticlavia’s job. Weren’t you going to visit your parents?” He said, cocking his head to the side.
“This little one had no one to take her home.” The Banescale replied, as the Nocturne jumped up onto Beacon’s talons. She shone gently, clearly very happy. Beacon smiled, and patted her on the head, remarking how warm she was. Autumnus explained what the other clan had observed about her, and Beacon agreed to give her a home in the Spire, where no leaves or twigs could catch on fire, and a name. As he observed her gemstone-like eyes, he decided on the name Mythril.

A few years have passed and Mythril is now a core part of the Moon Beacon Clan. She is a gentle dragon who takes care of hatchlings in her spare time, making sure they always have a friend to play with. Mythril loves all the hatchlings equally, dangerously high or incredibly low in Light affinity. She has learned how to control her Light power and when she is up in the Spire at night, she makes her body glow and makes the Spire a lighthouse again, however briefly, as gratitude to Beacon and Autumnus for taking her home.

Note to self: Never sell, never exalt, you made a promise to Sutaraito to keep her forever! UNTIL THE END OF TIME, SHE STAYS, ASTRO.

/sutaraito She’s absolutely gorgeous! I would love to take her and maybe breed with my other Nocturne once she’s old enough. She’s definitely a keeper.

Silly Astro you don’t HAVE another Nocturne male.
