Biography
ZULU the spirited forager |
One dark and cold December, strange eggs and bat-like dragons were released from the brambles of the Tangled Wood, the Shadowbinder's realm. Animate chests and horrifying creatures, once defeated in combat, sometimes heralded thick and spiky eggs with tiny dragons within. Neither Valencia nor Beo thought that bringing one of these curious Nocturnes into the clan would be a good idea, and decided to rehome an egg that Alchai brought in with him on his travels. However, the night before it was supposed to be shipped off to a different clan, Valencia's curiosity got the better of her... and Zulu was born, leaving her precious eggshell behind. At once, the members of Tycho's Peak were enamored with the tiny hatchling. Maylis, the then-new clan nanny, took the energetic young Nocturne in as one of her own, though Valencia still feels a slight bit of (uncharacteristic) motherly love for the tiny dragon wonder. Once she came of age, however, she had to do what every Tycho's Peak dragon must do eventually: earn her keep. She decided to take up scavenging the surrounding area for materials, a seemingly menial task that is only sometimes beneficial to the Peak. Hyperactive and with the attention span of a goldfish, Zulu matches Mayari in brightness and totally outdoes the older dragon in energy. She would be a major nuisance if she wasn't so endearing; the clan goes wild for her impersonations and no dragon is ever spared of her lighthearted mockery. Never one to be found alone, Zulu spreads her time between each of her beloved clanmates, even venturing down to the unsettling Grotto to reconnect with those who have parted from the main clan. Her den is right next to Maylis', nearly indistinguishable in the fuchsia stone. Zulu has taken up the role of gatherer at Tycho's Peak, running daily errands for every dragon and collecting what they need from the nearby landscape (she isn't allowed to travel too far; Valencia and Maylis fear she may not remember the way home). Or, she likes to think she'll collect what they need. In reality that only happens some of the time - once she flies into the wide world, full of mystical Arcane wonders, Zulu often forgets what she even went out for in the first place. She returns with what many see as useless trinkets, not what they asked for. Zulu, not phased, vows to do better the next day, and in the meantime she stores nearly everything she's collected in one of the Mimic chests that she's called her Familiar since day one. Despite her lack of a useful role, Valencia and the rest of Tycho's Peak adore their little Nocturne. Nero, Valencia's disgraced son, finds her infuriating: how dare this bumbling youth earn the admiration from his mother that he never received? |

Underneath all the stars and the trees
There's more to see than the birds and the bees
My, oh my, oh my, what a wonder
