Sal

One of the older residents of the clan, Sal is a fine fisherman and the main source of the clan’s seafood. He has his own small fishing boat, which causes him to jokingly call himself a captain. Through years of trial and error he’s learned to read the tides and the weather so well other sailors and fishers gladly listen to his advice. Not only that, but he gets very well along with the local maren beastclans, especially youngsters who like to pester him for stories and songs he gladly shares.

Though he prefers to fish alone, Sal never says “no” to chatter and company after a long day’s work. Anyone who talks to him for more than five minutes can see he’s not only of pleasant nature, he is also surprisingly witty and observant. This has caused many to think that he could’ve been a captain of a big ship, a rich merchant or even an ambassador, but Sal would have none of that. He enjoys the simplicity of his work and finds the physically hard labour extremely rewarding. He loves his boat and the waves that carry her and wouldn’t trade it for all the gold and glory in the world.

Sal is easy to like, especially among hatchlings. Like the young maren, young dragons love to listen to the fisherman’s tales that he tends to embellish to the little ones’ delight. He also has a habit of giving food from his net or lunch satchel to weary travellers should they happen across his path. He smiles often and easily, values a good chat and a story like a bard and is clearly very content with his simple job. Wherever he goes, he seems to carry the ocean with him, as the salt of the sea sticks to his fur and makes it coarse. Sal jokes that all the salt is just the token of his one true love he carries with him wherever he goes.
