”Earn your leadership every day”

G A I A
Clan matriarch

HER ORIGIN STORY

Long ago when parts of the forest were still young. A mighty ancient tree grew. Its roots spread deep across the land. Having a connection to every tree around it. Like a network of linked minds. The branches groaned with every tree that fell or burned from the battles. The base of the tree slowly grew a mound of moss. The soft plush vegetation guarding it ever so carefully.
For in the mossy pile grew a little brown egg. The dirt and roots bring the little one nutrients and support. For months the tree grew the hatchling. Wanting to give it the best chance possible. Towards the start of fall the egg had finally sprouted. Hatching a mere few days later. Out popped a little deep green skydancer. Lighter green cracks veined across her body.

The little one stared up at the mighty tree. It creaked and groaned for a moment. The hatching squeaked; almost as if she understood the tree. A whisper fell across her ears.

” Gaia. Our mighty protector and leader.”
Gaia fully understood her purpose. From then on she vowed to protect the tree. Even to grow a clan all her own to further spread her ability to protect the tree and all the ones around it.

THE FORMATION OF THE CLAN

Gaia had grown used to the solitude she felt. Building a small lair aloft the branches of her mother's tree. That is what she had grown to call the tree. Mother, for it had given her purpose and a home to call her own. Her dark green eyes floated around through the trees. Keeping out for any who dare intrude upon the forest. A rustle off in the distance startled her. She kept to attention. Craning her neck to try to tell where it came from. A twig snapped this time. Finally, she had settled on just going to investigate. Loping through the branches silently. Spreading her wings to balance her weight. Gaia finally settled in one of the peach trees in the grove of the small river running through. In the distance, a banter of voices came through.

” Gabriel over here. There’s a bunch of peach trees. This would be a good place to settle for a place wouldn’t it?” Gaia's antennae twitched frantically. She could sense many different breeds of dragons. Or at the very least a couple of them. Shortly later a group came into view. Leading the pack was a small chocolatey orange fae. His bronze armor clanked with every walk. Another fae followed behind him. An owl and a cat spirit closely behind them. Much like the stag mother had given Gaia.
The two stopped and paused for a moment. Almost as if they could sense Gaia being there. With a sudden force, the bushes brushed open. A strong pearlcatcher walking through. His glasses were low on the bridge of his nose. Paint stained his clothes, and even dried on his horn. A stag spirit grasped close to his side. Exactly like hers. She froze. Staring at the pearlcatcher with a certain familiarity. A warm flutter formed in her chest.
Her foot slipped. With a sudden sway, Gaia fell from the branch. Tumbling to the ground in front of the group with a loud thump. The fae flared their wings in fear. The pearlcatcher merely stared at the dragon who’d fallen in front of them. Gaia collected herself. Grabbing her bow and lacing an arrow. With a stride, she stepped forward spreading her massive wings.

” Who are you? What are you doing in my forest.” she spoke with authority. The brown-colored fae spoke first. ”uhm were travelers. Just looking for a place to settle down, and build a clan.”

Gaias' antennae twitched frantically. Mother was trying to reach her. Something important. Mother could probably sense the dragons too. The tree always welcomed new dragons. Even if they’d never stayed.
” Who are you? As far as we know from maps. No dragon lived out here in these woods.” The pearlcatcher spoke. Shaking his tail back and forth in a worried manner. Gaia stared at him for a moment again. His red eyes stared back into hers.
Gaia sheathed her arrow and strapped her bow back to her side. ” It's not surprising. I wasn’t ever born into a clan. I was born out here amongst the trees. The mother tree saved my egg. I was abandoned out here.”
The three looked at her perplexed. Confused even. Sighing she turned and waved her tail for them to follow. ” Come on. It’ll make more sense if I show you.”

So Gaia took them to the mother tree. They felt the energy themselves. Mother only spoke to Gaia. However, she did know that a clan could form a bond with her, and thus have access to her mother’s voice as well. So she opened the idea to them. To stay here with her build a clan. She’d already spent time building many lairs amongst the trees for her future clan. So everything was in place. They thought about the idea and agreed.

With that Gaias clan was born. She couldn’t think of a name for a long time but was sure it would come in time.
