Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this shadow wandered a little too far from her home lair (570686, LabyrinthianLost), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

Being a traveler's child was hard, Rend decided. With her mother, it wasn't too bad - her parents had been travelers too, so she understood the struggle. But Rend and her father, Starshine, did not get along at all. He was constantly going on and on about how he was going to leave, how much he missed the open road, yada yada. Rend hated hearing about it. Was he that desperate to leave her? Well, she wouldn't let him.

When her parents weren't looking, she sped across the city and through the rarely-used tunnel that was once the city's entrance, following the winding path until she reached the surface. If her father was so keen to leave, she'd show him what for - by leaving sooner. With not as much as a single coin to her name, Rend left her once-home and set out to travel the world.

Rend ended up in Crow Callers next. It was a place far from her original home, which she appreciated very much. It was a wonder that a hatchling could travel so far - she managed to hitchhike with several other dragons and other passing creatures.

She made her way to the lodge, where she was welcomed in. So far, things were going quite well for her - much better than they had been.

Rend spent a long time in the clan, getting to know the different dragons there. One day, she found that she had grown up, and took this as a sign that it was time for her to continue her travels.

She hoped she'd return to Crow Callers someday, however.

On Rend's journey, she ran into another traveller called Esomchi. He was a curious fellow, and fun to talk to, and a good listener. They slept near each other by a campfire, on a long-dusky night on the lesser plains. Sunset had been beautiful, the waning rays were fragmented painfully and beautifully through the crystals that jutted out of the earth. They made reflections on the earth, like false pools and oasises. Even at night, formless shapes glimmered by the moonlight.

"It sounds tough." Esomchi hummed, while heating another pot of tea. "Did you really think your father wanted to leave you behind?"

"It always seemed like it. My siblings and I were never really his focus. Even when he was there, his mind was still elsewhere... I wish it wasn't so."

"I think... I understand, though I kind of wish I didn't. It's not fair what you went through... Where do you'll go now?"

"I'm not sure, I was actually planning on asking if I could join you for a bit...?" She looked at him, hopefully, it was nice to have a friend for once.

"I'm sorry," the wildclaw turned away from her, "I think I travel best on my own..."

"But we should met again some day.

Remaining on the road meant lots of time for stories and conversation. Whether from groups or individuals, rumors found their way around, and the one that landed before Rend was no different. It was a curiosity, like so many other tales shared around fires beneath the night skies: a place thought to be a deathtrap within the Tangled Wood had been conquered. It hardly sounded pleasant. However, curiosity was a tenacious thing, and she was already on the path…

Surely, there was no harm in seeing whether or not the rumors were true.

The trek was arduous and complicated – many places within the Tangled Wood did not wish to be discovered, and it seemed that this ‘Crypt’ was no different. However, her time growing up on the border more than prepared her for this. She got lost, went too far, and found herself stuck many a time, but at least she knew how to continue on without fully losing track of where she was. Then, one day, by some miracle or stroke of luck, she came across a dilapidated stone entryway.

She had found it.

In the excitement of victory, she had run up to investigate a structure that was under repair, only to have to skid to a halt before she tripped wings over claws over a smaller dragon. She hadn’t even seen them- it was startling. It was as though they had just emerged from the shadows. There was no time to further contemplate their arrival though, as a question was posed: “Do you bring an oblation?”

“An… oblation?” she asked with a curious tilt of her head.

“The price of entry is an oblation,” the same dragon said, before another voice called from the shade of the entryway, “A secret told and never to be shared.”

“A secret?” she echoed again before she frowned in thought. In her travels, she’d heard many stories, but none had come with the adage of secrecy. Not only that, but she was young as well – there was hardly much time to develop hidden intricacies. After a minute, she had to shrug and shake her head, “I don’t have any secrets.”

“A shame,” they said before turning away to disappear with the shadows once again.

Realizing what was happening, Rend straightened suddenly and called out, “Hey- wait! Can I stay here for a little while?”

For a long moment, there was no answer. It wasn’t until her jaw drooped to speak again that the voice in the shadows responded, “Your honesty brings days out of the elements, but no more. You may enter.”

Not about to allow them to take their words back, Rend rushed headfirst into the darkness. There, she would find very little. The dragons that came and went from the Crypt wouldn’t speak to her – they hardly even looked at or acknowledged her. It was a lonely and hollow feeling, but it meant that her short visit was a blessing in disguise. She was fed and given a place to rest, but after that, it was time to move on.

When Rend landed in this forest, she enjoy spending time in the forest then the kingdom. The forest is very beauitful to place to stay. She even spent the night here too. But, she knew that she couldn't stay here forever. She needs to travel more and keep on seeing more things. She decided to leave this beauitful place and she flew away.
