A place for those who sleep with one eye cracked,
Tongue tasting the air
As the animals keep watch,
And the night’s gloom settles over the sable leaves?

The shadowed domain accepts all,
The paranoid and the brave,
The reserved and the passionate
Those with loyalties tied in blood, and those still searching.

So opposites met,
Purple and green,
Black and purple,
Beneath the twisted boughs.

One taught the other
Of the gentle caress of fur,
The chatter of birds,
The stillness of the woods at rest
At peace.

And one taught the other,
Of a heart’s fire,
Of the shadowed embrace of another
Of passion given for passion’s sake.

The woods have a place for all,
But love is no place for the fearful,
Who sleep with one eye cracked,
Tasting the air with forked tongue,
As the animals keep watch,
And the night’s gloom settles over the sable leaves.

Opposites met, and opposites parted
And the fearful said, “Look into the deepest black,
The inky noire that’s gilded bright with gold.
These woods are full of shadows, full of shade,
But of all, of all, this one is the ace.
