Darkpool was hatched from the final clutch Stormchaser and Brineclaw (Court King IV) had together before the former king was exiled following his battle with Blacktide (Court King V)

When Darkpool was only a young hatchling, he watched his father be attacked and overthrown by Blacktide, then forced into exile. While the clan rejoiced and celebrated their new leader, Darkpool sat in his nest with his mother.

As he grew older, Darkpool began butting heads with his older brother. Once he was old enough to leave the main lair, Darkpool set off to carve out his own den within the territory away from Blacktide's eyes and ears, and those in the clan who whispered to each other about Darkpool's growing resemblance to his father. After a few days of searching, he settled in an abandoned stretch of waterways. with sturdy walls and grates. In these watery tunnels, he would come across a young Crocoturtle. Having heard stories of these great beasts from Coldsea as a hatchling, he began feeding it in hopes of gaining its companionship.

Riptide, named after Brineclaw's faithful Rabid Grinfin Darkpool had played with as a hatchling, and has since become his closest companion, serving as a steadfast guardian and an eager hunting partner.
