ShpyonAof lived in the same village as Yaasai. Early in her life she took joy in hiding and as she grew learned the art of stealth. Then she started learning secrets. Many of the female tundras lamented over their children being sent out of the village at a very young age. Some times the mother dragons were sent out too. They took their eggs with them and then brought the eggs back. Some did not come back. This must have been what happened to her mother. She had no memory of her. If no one could come in or leave where did these dragons go? Also she was discouraged from even talking to the male dragons. This seemed odd to her also.

When she was older she found out why. Pairs were chosen by the elders and some times changed. She had been expected to obey when it was her time to nest. When finally she brought her first clutch for the council of elders to inspect, they held strange stones over the fresh eggs. Shaking their heads in dismay they told her to take them to another realm and find new homes for them. They had no spark of what the elders were looking for. ShpyonAof did as she was told. As she got older and more of her precious babies were sent away she became bitter.

In all of this she became better at hiding and stealth. She started watching the elders as often as she could. Once she saw them pleased with a clutch. They sent that mother away too. But they gave her instructions on how to go to the Shadow realm and wash the eggs in a special place there. One of those eggs was Yaasai. His mother did not live long after visiting that place. ShpyonAof wanted a young one so badly she started watching over him from concealment. She also tucked him in at night after he went to sleep and left snacks outside his lean-to.

She still spied on the elders as much as she could. She found out they were trying to combine the Light Weavers gifts with gifts from the Arcane deity and also from the Shadow deity. They were looking for magic. It was then that she realized that all they taught about the Light Weaver was just a cover for the dark deeds they were actually performing here. Yaasai had become religious. He truly believed his power came from the Light Weaver herself. But ShpyonAof knew better. He was a shadow dragon. immersed in the shadow mists. Because he was touched with the Light Weavers grace he had runes on his body that the light shown out of. Just as she did. But she also came to know she had been immersed in the Arcane pools as an egg. She found out it could all be told by the eyes.

These revelations upset her terribly. She started to see the elders as evil old dragons practicing dark magics. Giving up on watching the old ones out of disgust she spent more time watching Yaasai grow up. He always seemed to know when she was around. He would give her a wink or nod. He also played her game with her and kept her hiding places secret. She had just nodded a nice hello to him when the elders approached him. She heard every word.

No! She would not let her only friend go. Immediately she started making plans to leave. The elders had to bring the old protection spell down several days before a new one could be put up. She would leave then and wait for Yaasai outside. When Yaasai gave her his most treasured posession, a cage of sacred birds, she decided to thumb the elders one more time and take the birds with her. She packed light and was ready. As soon as the elders put down the ring of protection, she was through. Her path was precarious going around the swirling purple mists. before long though she had outpaced the deadly mist and found a place to hide and wait for Yaasai.

ShpyonAof waited for days. She had missed Yaasai. Probably when she tried to go around the mists she had become lost. With her head down in disappointment she started trudging north. It was not safe to fly here. Some of the mist hung in the trees. Just about the time she had given up all hope of finding Yaasai again, a wall of brilliant yellow light sped toward her and through her. She felt enlightened and happier than she could ever remember being. More importantly she was pretty sure she knew what direction Yaasai was in.

In another week of slow travel she heard the songs of scores of fae. Stopping to listen she heard them singing about the honored one and the new clan that was very old and lived again. Silly Fae the thoughts they got into their minds. As she crossed under the redwoods that were full of the tiny dragons she saw a ramp across a stream. At the near side were 2 huge stone dragons. She could practically smell the magic here. This is where she would find Yaasai. With light feet she ran up the ramp.

Touching the door lightly was all she needed to gain access. Inside was a bare hall. Sitting at the far end was Yaasai. He was waiting for her. She ran to him and bowed. Then from under a cover she brought out his birds. The same ones that he had cared for to glean feathers for rituals and his marks of office. Without a word Yaasai led her to the garden he now lived in. It was still pretty overgrown. But it was amazing. Then he invited her to his lean-to and poured for her tea. She felt at peace.
