My Dearest Sin,

I awoke to the smell of smoke and ran out of my burrow. Fire. So much fire. It was coming from the trees in a roaring blaze, ready to burn our dear home down. Next there were screams. Dragons on fire. My parents ran out of the burrow behind me, rushing to try to put out the flames and assist the clan. I couldn’t handle it. I… don’t remember much else aside from these images. They are as hazy as the smoke that filled the air that night.

But I remember you, my beloved. I must have run for quite a while to escape the blaze, eventually passing out due to my wounds. I don’t remember the nature of them. But I remember awakening in that pleasant grove, surrounded by beautiful smelling flowers, shaded under the roots of a grand tree that had been formed into a home. And you, small and caring; not much smaller than you were when I last saw you; mixing herbs into a paste that smelled like what had been rubbed on my wounds. I remember you smiling at me when I awoke, dazed and confused, and telling me everything will be alright. That you would keep me safe here.

I vaguely remember the early days of our clan, where you shared your magic with me and taught me how to care for myself. I remember the smells of friends who joined us in the lovely garden we had built for ourselves. I remember your gentle laugh, your pleasant smile, and the love we shared.

I remember you rushing to the nest one early morning, calling my name excitedly as our first two eggs hatched. And I remember raising our two boys, Ajantis and Destiny, into strong members of our clan.

I apologize if I have told you this many times before; reciting these things and continuing to write them down helps me to remember, you know. And I hope I never forget you. I will never forget your sweet, floral scent and gorgeous green eyes. I love you more than anything else in this world, and I promise that I will return soon. I’ve made progress with befriending the clan I am visiting now. Little Moss, who I wrote about previously, has been safe in my care and is planning to return with me. Somehow, I know she will fit in perfectly within the Forbidden Garden.
