After the games were played and food was eaten, it was now time for Butterscotch to take a gander at the tiny shops. He was hoping to find some materials or magical artifacts he could use for his spells that he normally had difficulty finding. He walked slowly down the street, chatted with the vendors, listened to how they got their claws on such rare items. Butterscotch managed to find some of the items he was looking for and also bought some that he thought would be useful in the future. Just as he was looking around, his eyes got locked onto a bookshelf behind a vendor. He stopped in his track and started reading the titles of the books one by one.
"Hello, welcome. All of these books are at least three decades old. Anything specific you're looking for? We also have some magic books." The Coatl spoke with a monotonous tone, contrasting her vibrant wing feathers.
"I'm interested in that. What do you have?"
"Well, you don't strike me as a beginner, so you might be into this." She picked up a Mith Spellbook from one of the bottom shelves.
Butterscotch took the book in his hands and flipped it. After examining the back, he puts it on the table. "I already have this at home. Do you have anything for the more experienced?"
"Hm... how about this one?" She picked up one of the Aged Tome on her right and laid it in front of him. "There's a reason it's anonymous."
Butterscotch started flipping through the pages. They were filled with spells that required very specific materials and could be handled only by someone sho knew what they were doing. These spells were very complex, but also had very specific outcomes that most spells in commonly found books didn't have. "Oh, this guy knew what they were talking about." He slid the book to his left. "And you seem like you've got a good source." He took out a few coins and slid them across the table towards the Coatl. For the first time since they met, her half-lidded eyes opened fully. "I'm looking for something more powerful."
The vendor took the coins as her tongue flickered. "I have just what you're looking for." She pulled a box from under the table which couldn't be seen from the outside because of the tablecloth. She took out a Weathered Grimoire and put it on the table with a thump. The book gave of a kind of energy only Butterscotch could sense because of his experiences. He flipped through the pages and looked around to see if anyone was watching him or the book. Dark magic, forbidden spells; needing materials that can be used only when they're fresh or gathered illegally. And their effects? Resurrection, telekinesis, poison strong enough for a dozen Guardians, and many more.
"Now this- this will do the trick." The Coatl put her paw on the open book. "Hey, I won't be hearing any murder news tonight, will I?" Butterscotch laughed. "Oh, no no. I have nothing against anyone. This is for me and my loved ones." Her tongue flickered and her brows furrowed. "I hope you ain't lying to me." He shook his head with a smile and closed the book. He put the Mith Spellbook on top of the thick book of dark magic and pushed them towards the vendor. "I'd like to buy these two, please." He gave a handful of coins and got a few back, then wished the vendor a nice day and went on his way.
Along his way, he thought about what he'd do with his newly acquired book. He felt a sense of guilt on his back, which he tried to push away. Butterscotch, despite how much of a sweet Tundra he was known to be, wanted to be a powerful sorcerer, and he would do anything to achieve his goal. He wanted to be respected, which he already was, but he wanted it to be out of fear. He wanted to be able to do anything his heart desired, whether it be with magic or the power it brought him. So in order to succeed, he often resorted to taboo or even forbidden methods. He never let anyone know and fooled everyone with his gentle smile and sweet gestures. He had only one dragon find out before, and he took care of him. It pained him to do that, couldn't sleep for a few weeks, but knew what had to be done was done. What managed to keep him from deeming himself sinful was that he was always going to use his magic for the good of his clan, his loved ones, and Butterscotch himself.
