johnny's father was never around, leaving his mother with the only hatchling she'd ever have. she was a kind woman who only wanted the best for her son, so she unknowingly did the worst thing she ever could've done for him: became the mate of their clan's leader. the clan leader was a verbally abusive nothing, a nobody, at least in the eyes of johnny. but.. it got him into a higher place in their society, so he put up with it. as a hatchling, he was trained by their best warrior, who he came to see as a father figure. the man taught him everything he knew, and johnny became his top student, undefeated and stronger than the rest. to show his power, he was given a black and red bandana by his teacher, which he still wears to this day. he remained on top of his group until a new dragon was brought into their clan — daniel. daniel and him quickly became worst enemies, and were always warring with each other. daniel was taken under the wing of a very old warrior, who taught him seemingly everything he knew. while johnny took to bullying daniel, daniel trained as hard as he could. finally, daniel used his new skills against johnny, managing to defeat him in battle. johnny's teacher thought this was absolutely unacceptable, and decided to challenge daniel's teacher. a date was set for the two boys to battle. johnny was told to cheat during their fight, and that if he didn't do anything it took to win, then he was weak. so, johnny cheated. daniel still won. johnny's ego never recovered from the loss, and he kind of became a laughing stock, believing himself a disappointment. the feud continued well into their dragonhood, and johnny remained in the lower rankings of their clan up until recently, when him and daniel got into a fight over who would take over the clan. johnny believed that he had every right to take over his step-father's clan after his untimely death, but with daniel named the deputy of their clan, he stood no chance. johnny essentially exiled himself out of anger and left, surviving for weeks on his own. finally, he came upon an unoccupied cave, which became his home. it's not long before someone else stumbles on the cave, and he decides that this would be the start of his own clan — the cobra den, he would call it. with his new young protégé, he taught his teacher's three most important rules: strike first. strike hard. no mercy.
