Nimbus arrived at the home of Clan Nightshade on one dark and stormy night in the form of a rather lumpy purple egg, which none of the dragons recognized. Nigate was the first to notice it, and after a brief debate, he and his mate Heza agreed to take the egg in, with the former incubating it until it hatched the next day.

When the young Nocturne emerged from his shell, his Guardian surrogates weren't sure exactly what sort of dragon he was, only that he was orphaned, gangly, and they were never, ever letting him out of their sight. (Or, so they hoped.) Thus far, Nigate's done a fairly good job of keeping his young Charge out of trouble, but the fledgling's curiosity and behavioral mimicry don't always go over so well with his clanmates.

As a hatchling, he appeared to exhibit a rather extraordinary talent for imitating his surroundings, which caused much widespread alarm among the clan members, save for Shardas, who found it highly amusing. Thankfully, Heza soon taught him to control his abilities, and his coloration seems to have settled, though he still bears the markings that he copied from other clan members. No one is quite sure whether or not he's retained the ability as an adolescent, and no one dares ask for fear of repeating one of the many panicked searches for the camouflaged Nocturne.

Whether or not he'll someday choose a Charge in the fashion of his adoptive parents has become a topic of heated debate among those who consider themselves experts in magecraft (namely Heza, who thinks he's likely to, and Anubis, who finds the entire notion preposterous.) As of now, no one is certain to what degree this aspect of his upbringing will affect his behavior as a full-grown adult.

Even moons after being inducted into the clan as a full member, the state of Nimbus's magecraft abilities remains carefully under wraps, thanks to the hard work of Heza and clan matriarch Nightshade, who hope to use his unusual abilities to maintain covert surveillance of the area and have forewarning of any potential dangers. It is publicly known, however, that he's taken a mate in the talented metalworker Edziza, with whom he's already raised several clutches.
