EDZIZA

Clan Metalworker

Though Edziza began her life as a solitary, unhatched egg in the Ashfall Waste, the young Nocturne never suffered much for her lack of parentage-- or at least, that's how she prefers to tell her story as an adult. According to the enterprising female, she was incubated solely by the heat of the Flamecaller's domain, and raised herself independent of any clan, instead finding nourishment in catching the insects that were attracted by the heat of nearby lava pools.

She would, of course, later become curious about the rest of dragonkind, and spend much time observing other clans (and their metalworking techniques), though she never felt quite at home in any of them. Instead of embracing the comfort and stability of civilization, she struck out as a nomad, exploring the various waterways and canals through the adjacent Lightning and Water domains, and alternately battling and fleeing from the various Shade-infested creatures there. Some, however, few as they were, remained free of the evil taint, and the fledgling was able to befriend them, even going so far as offering her limited understanding of the Fire flight's weapon-making strategies, so that the fearful, untouched denizens of the passages could better escape the slaughter of their possessed brethren. In exchange, they guided her to the safety of the Tangled Wood, almost on the other side of the world.

Satisfied-- at least for the time being-- with her adventuring, and wholly certain that she knew more about Sornieth than she had when she set out, the inquisitive young adult sought a clan where she might finally settle down, but continue to learn and improve her craft nonetheless. She found this, as well as her mate, Nimbus, in Clan Nightshade.

Edziza arrived at a most fortunate time, as the architectural projects and various lair renovations of fellow Nocturne Ilan had left the clan with an abundance of cast-off rock, which was proving to be more than an overwhelmed Aeolus was capable of trading away. Immediately, the Fire-born female took an interest in the stone, and, with the permission of both matriarch Nightshade and Aeolus, the granite's de facto owner, began working with it. Using the techniques she'd gleaned during her childhood, Edziza was able to extract some valuable metals from the scraps, much to the delight of everyone involved.

Since then, Edziza has been officially recognized as Clan Nightshade's authority on all things rock and metal, and continues to work with both Ilan's cast-offs and ores brought in from other clans. What metal isn't sold off again by Aeolus is usually given to Alondra for use in her armor, weapons, and other inventions, though Edziza does occasionally hang on to metals or precious stones for use in her emergent jewelrymaking.

Aside from her trade partners, Edziza also occasionally works with Heza, who has been continually fascinated by the idea of developing a form of summoning magecraft that would make the process of metal extraction quicker and easier. Her reputation as a storyteller, outlandish though her tales may be, has also earned Edziza the rare approval of clan archivist Corianna, who has professed interest in writing a story (or perhaps a play) based on the Nocturne's life. Whether or not this will ever come to fruition, or if it was just another jest born of the Coatl's dry humor, remains to be seen.
