The Shadow

Veratra fears that as secondborn, she will always be cursed to be considered second-rate. While her sisters, Aulactinia and Cove, are fawned over by their mother and father respectively, Veratra has fallen to the wayside. While Aluactinia is promised a great destiny by Anemone, and Cove exhibits the same talent for healing as Shoal, Veratra knows that she is considered a backup at best.

As resentment begins to curdle in the heart of this once-sweet hatchling, she vows that one day, she will no longer be seen as a last resort. One day, both her sisters and her parents will see what they neglected. One day, she will show them all.
