Cumulo waved a claw airily. "Ah, every university needs a provost! I don't know how you've managed without one for so long!"

"Surely that should prove our point," Naaklawerde put in dryly. "We've managed without one because we do not, in fact, need administration. We provide teaching in exchange for resources, and travel to further our research. In what way does this seem, to you, to require external positions?"

Cumulo merely smiled, unfolding the parchment she'd stowed. "Well, that's an excellent topic for our first committee meeting. Shall I mark you as interested in chairing?"
