Biography
The Thunder-Cursed Chessmaster
a uniquely low-energy Sandsurge, Rook was actually the very first Sandsurge to leave her clan to explore the surface after their discovery. She'd been subtly derided, insulted, injured, and excommunicated for years - ever since she aquired a curse while trying to explore the surface as a hatchling. The only dragon to be kind to her since the curse was her friend Spinner, who made a mobility device for her to help her through her project shifts the clan still forced her to do, even though the digging shifts were slowly destroying her legs and soul. She named the first chair SpinBot, in honor of her amazing friend.
Rook's curse came from being struck by lightning while completely exposed on the surface. She was climbing a tree for the first time, and didn't know the danger of direct, un-grounded lightning strikes. The strike burnt most of her white scales black, and gave her a perpetual aura of crackling, dark electricity that continually saps her energy. Her digging shifts, once she was old enough for them, were the only activity she could do in a day. Wake up, dig, sleep, repeat was her life until Spinner made her SpinBot. Since then, she's started some personal projects of art, sculpting, and book collecting.
When the Sandsurge were discovered and the news reached Rook, she realized she could just leave her Clan. It had, for years, seemed like they all wanted her disabled "waste of resources" out of their Clan, so she just packed up and left one morning before her digging shift. Traveling was grueling, but with the help of Antelounge 3 (a very comfy and fast moving lounge) courtesy of Spinner, Rook made it across the Expanse to the Sunbeam Ruins unscathed.
Ever since arriving at the sanctuary, Rook joined the ranks of the crafters and gained a new hobby - board games. Something to do with minimal movement and spend time with others. It's her new favourite thing - chess especially. She's the new chessmaster of the Sanctuary, beating any and all opponents who dare challenge her!
Rook and Spinner usually hang out at the Cafe and play chess, talking and laughing and being happier together than either of them have been before.
