Weird. As a young hatchling, a common phrase followed. In plain sight, hidden, yelled, or gently placed on someone's tongue. It didn't matter, I've always felt it. Nothing really can explain it, but it brought some comfort. Fear, at first, but with time it's become so normalized, I don't even pay any attention to it. It's words sag, drenched in its meaning. Smearing across the walls, finishing off with a dramatic ending. A slurry of words worded differently each time, yet still meaning the same outcome.

Competition rose, or it felt like it. I never noticed, but competition had always been there. Unnoticeable, yet it still dominated. Even after we are long gone, it will still remain, on our graves. Nobody told me it would go like this. Nobody knew it would even be like this. It's too late to regret the past, now it's time to move forward with everyone else.

Pairs of eyes are all on me. Since birth, till the very end. Nothing can outmatch me, that's what I thought to myself. Then next opponent approached. They're all the same. A sly smirk, a smug comment, then bam. They all leave, embarrassed and leaving the comforting silence to fill their space.
