Biography
Nancurunir is a merged name from Nan Curunír which is the valley of/near Isengard. It means "Valley of Saruman" or "The Wizard's Vale" most likely in Sindarian Elvish.
Nancurunir started off as a lone wolf, but he wandered too close to the territory of Azog, and so was collected to be in his Army. He was one of two males forced to breed with Azog's daughters to begin building the army, an event he was not to fond of being forced to do, but would ultimately change his entire life.
He ended up falling in love with Caradhras, Azog's daughter, and together they had 4 hatchlings, however, unfortunately, two of the four were Tundras, which boded ill for their survival. Caradhras pleaded with her father to spare them, but they were to be made examples of. One was killed outright in front of the whole clan, and when the other was brought to him to be killed, Caradhras fought back, and so did Nancurunir. Together they took the child and ran, but Caradhras knew it would mean the death of the other hatchlings that had been left back during the frey if she didn't return. She and he sent their daughter off to find her uncle, and they never saw Silig again.
When they arrived back, Azog was naturally furious. He grabbed a hold of Caradhras and badly wounded her neck, savagely injuring her while the clan watched. Nan attempted to help Caradhras but that was a grievous mistake. He may have spared her life, but Nan would forever be on the front lines. The Army was still too small to be killing everyone, no matter how much his rage told him it was a good idea, so instead Azog ordered that Nan and their remaining sons Grima and Wormtongue be constantly on the front lines...eventually securing their deaths.
None of the three did, but Nan by far got the worst of it. He was built to be a warrior, and so more often than his sons, was sent out to do Azog's bidding. He has seen many die, and while he holds the memory of those who have passed, he never shows how it effects him. He steels himself, as in war, if you are not sharp, you will die. His death would most assuredly mean his families.
His very life was a defiance in Azog's eyes, and finally Azog would have no more of him. Caradhras had caught wind of her father's plans and alerted Nan. He begged for her and their other two children to come with him. Caradhras wept as she declined, stating that if they all left, it would be too heavy of a loss for the Army to be ignored...and they would have it's entirety hunting them for the rest of their lives. He thought about taking his sons, but again, the same problem. He knew that as long as she lived...they would be safe. So with a heavy heart he said his goodbyes and left.
He was later joined by Belegpaw, another who fell out of favor. Together they search of Hodor (Caradhras' brother) and his daughter Silig.
