Lian Hua is cleverest, Lian Hua is wisest.

No one was as clever as Lianhua . No one was as fierce as Lianhua. No one was as daring, as vicious, as learned as Lianhua.

He swam the Thousand Currents and discovered hidden grottoes filled with the Tidelord's secrets. He gathered hoards of pearls. He devoured fish and mamertee and merfolk alike.

But his fellow clanmates were jealous. They took his pearls and exiled him, drove him out of the Tidelord's realm and into the shallow, twisting rivers of the Windswept Plateau. Swimming, striving, he searched for the sea.

When he found it he beheld for the first time the Twisting Crescendo: a whirlpool of air greater then anything he'd seen in the Thousand Currents.

And there was a great scarlet Imperial who flew into its very heart.

Seeing her, he knew this would be a clanmate who would never fall prey to petty jealousies. He found her lair and her Clan and asked no permissions. He simply set his things in a free corner and began bringing them fish.

No one has spoken against him. Ume has tended his wounds with care that belies her bitter tongue, and Higanbana watches over him from above. And living on the edge of the ocean means his hoard is growing: black pearls with peacock green luster. Pink ones rosy like the dawn. Ones so white they seem like drops of snow. Soon his collection will outstrip the one he had in his old clan lair, tangible proof of how his life has improved.
