Glow Mushroom Luna Mith Midnight Lantern Ethereal Entourage

YE53boy.png

An elusive and mysterious species of luna moth or firefly-like creature native to the mushroom bog realm Blacklight and his wards are bound to. With an irresistible instinct to seek out ultraviolet light, they have evolved to feed on the spores that the fluorescent fungi dominating their ecosystem produce in excess. Though they are timid and do not wish to make their presences known, their food source gives them no choice--as they break down and absorb nutrients from the spores they eat, their bodies retain a decent portion of residual UV light and fluoresce accordingly. The glow fades over time as their bodies process their energy stores; displaying dim or no fluorescence is a sign they are hungry again and must find more spores to eat.

Their sheer numbers help keep the growth of fungal colonies in check, though the relationship is considered parasitic as the mushrooms do not benefit in any way from their spores being eaten. However, for those infested with an abundance of spores themselves and dying for relief, they serve as a perfect symbiote. Blacklight seems to have a deep connection with the species; it is rumored he is able to commune with them and forecast their migration patterns throughout the realm, but they are still living beings with free will and not subject to his beck and call.
Where the spores are plenty, they are plenty.
