Umweg

There tends to be something at the end of a lane. If only just the end of that lane, a patch of grass maybe, or some rocks. Rocks are good. Crunchy, good for talon sharpening. Yet not all lanes are made equal.

Some lanes are the bothersome type that lead somewhere, from where you can go in different directions, and have to pick a different lane. He vastly preferred lanes that were, at most, bidirectional. He didn’t even mind the unidirectionality of a dead-end. There’s always something to find at dead-ends. That is where the death ends, therefore life flourishes, sometimes it's weeds, sometimes it’s trees, sometimes there’s a lake with fish in it and he can have a snack. Whichever it ends up being, still very worth the discovering.

It’s the choosing he had problems with. He was an explorer who wasn’t keen on keeping track of where he had not been. He didn’t mind rediscovering places, he had comfort walks, which most dragons would question, but he didn’t really care about what other dragons thought of his exploring habits. While many had travelled far and wide, for many it was about the destination rather than the journey. He liked the journey. It was his favourite part.
