Disappearance #57:
Theme Song: Consume Me
Under the skin is the dragon once known as Charoite:
Charoite flew across the ocean, the glittering surface shifting from blues to greens. He glanced away as the sun reflected off the water straight into his eyes, a blinding flash of light.
He had always avoided traveling near water, his father had gone fishing and had never returned, and his father’s friends had told Charoite about how he died. His father had walked into the water, which barely reached his shoulders, but it was as if the water was pulling him down, and even with the combined effort of multiple dragons, he had slowly sunk under, drowning alive. He was never seen from again, and Charoite’s mother had warned him ever since that, “The water will consume you.”
But there was no doubt that it was pretty. Hundreds of creatures of all sizes flicked through the water, some easy to spot with flashing scales and bright colors, others deliberately hiding from view. Charoite closed his eyes, relishing the immense breeze blowing into his face and across his body comfortingly, while also being strong enough that he had to brace himself for it.
A loud rushing sound pulled him out of his comfort. He looked behind him, and to his horror, a giant wall of water, hundreds of feet tall, had risen up behind him. It curved forwards at him, like a roof of water, like a monster baring its teeth, ready to eat. Fish of all sizes were swimming within it, oblivious to what was happening. The monster of water was closing around him, like a mouth, closing to chew. The only way out was forwards. Charoite charged forwards, his frontal spike leading the way. It’s not going to work. The water was falling down in front of him at crazy speeds. The jaws were closing. It’s just water, I can just fly through it… right? Chaorite braced himself for impact, racing for the wall of water facing him, pointing his spines towards it like it was an enemy he was going to rip through.
An enormous force crashed down upon Charoite as tons and tons of water fell down onto him, pulling him into the sea, swallowing him whole. Charoite was never seen from again.
The water will consume you.
