He holds Plague ideology close to his heart, making sure the dragons of his clan are strong and resilient. He is a tough leader who does not believe in going soft on the members of the clan—not even for the hatchlings. He's not afraid to make whatever sacrifices he feels are necessary, the survival of the clan is his main priority and he will do anything if it means benefiting it.

Despite his stony-heartedness, he enjoys playing music whenever he has spare time and it is something very important to him. He has a few old makeshift instruments that he crafted in his days before the clan from a large, unusual carcass he found. He holds music lessons and small performances that he encourages his fellow clan members to take part in as a way to boost clan morale.

Before forming the clan, Grimegutter spent his years exploring the vast lands of Sornieth. To many dragons' surprise, he was not always the uptight, harsh, unbending leader he is now. Like a great deal of other young dragons, he was carefree and foolish at the time he set off to travel across Sornieth—a mistake he now ensures the younglings of his clan don't repeat. Accompanying him on his travels was his brother. The two left the lair, excited to experience the outside world. Only a month after their journey began, Grimegutter was faced with the harsh reality of the world. The pair was attacked by a clan after unknowingly wandering into the wrong territory, and—being woefully unprepared for such an occurence—Grimegutter's brother later died from infection associated with his injuries. Grimegutter decided to continue with his travels, but was much more cautious than he had been before. The more experience and knowledge he gained of the world, the more serious he seemed to become. Finally, he decided to return to the familiar dangers of the Scarred Wasteland.
Eventually, as he was arduously making his way through the Abiding Boneyard, he stumbled upon a severely injured dragon. It was impossible to discern what happened or how long the dragon had been there. There was nothing in the area that surrounded the two apart from a very large skeleton that Grimegutter was, strangely, unable to identify. There didn't even appear to be any signs of a fight or that the dragon had painstakingly dragged herself to this spot before collapsing. He took note of the deep, festering gashes all over the dragon's body, and noting that she would likely be dead before the next dawn, he didn't bother to stop to help her. This was the way of nature. As he passed by, the wounded dragon weakly called out for help. Perhaps the situation's resemblance to his brother softened his heart. He ended up attempting to heal the dragon's injuries, although it was with much reluctance. He kept the dragon company as she recovered, and, despite Grimegutter's obvious indifference towards her, she grew quite fond of him in this time. The dragon insisted she accompany Grimegutter from then on. She was strong and seemingly trustworthy, so he allowed it, figuring it could benefit them both.
