Along the shores and in the waters of the Blacksand Annex resided a curious group of dragons who had once claimed both the Tidelord and Flamecaller as their deities. Having been excommunicated by many water and fire clans alike due to this belief, the Volcanic Shore dragons began to forge their own communities and cultures amidst the bedlam of the greater warring clans.

The Volcanic Shore dragons, as they exist today, consist of two independent factions: the Tropical faction, which adheres to their aquatic roots and celebrates fire element values, and the Arctic faction, which migrated into waters closer to the Southern Icefield, having felt forgotten by their gods and othered by the rest of Sornieth. While the Tropical Volcanic Shore dragons celebrate their unique and independent culture, taking pride in their differences from the rest of the world, the Arctic Volcanic Shore dragons try to find solace in their nomadic livelihood through the bonds of family as they forever search for a place to truly call home.

The Tropical and Arctic factions of the Volcanic Shore dragons see each other as allies and one in the same. In fact, is not uncommon to see young Volcanic Shore dragons drift between these two factions as they mature, struggling to feel some sort of sense of belonging in either culture. Being aligned to two opposing elements can be hard on these younger dragons, causing them to unexpectedly erupt with emotions as they try to come to terms with the idea that they may never fit in with the rest of dragonkind. As they mature, however, these emotions become ever more dormant as they find their place within their own clans and begin to feel pride in forging their own destiny and place to call home without aid of the gods or other dragons of Sornieth.
