It was that time of the year again. Summer was drawing to a close and, with it, the temperatures were getting cooler. The leaves were just starting to turn brown on the tips, and the winds were growing harsher.
It was their time to shine. "Fall, dear, wake up," Autumn pleaded, grabbing her partner's shoulder and gently shaking him. "It's supposed to be our first day, hun. We can't afford to be late again like last year! The larger dragon groaned, burying his snout under a wing. "Come on, dear. Five more minutes, please..." Autumn laughed, gently brushing his wing aside and letting the sunlight streaming in from the window shine across his face again. "You know as well as I do that that's silly." "I know," he grumbled. "Alright. I'll get up." As her partner sighed and stretched deeply, Autumn began to don her cloak and enchanted basket. Once she was fully dressed, she walked back over to her partner and helped him up out of their shared nest, allowing him to lean against her shoulder. "Are you sure I can't have five more minutes?" he groaned, even as he was getting dressed. "On any other day, I'd say yes, dear. We have to complete our duty as heralds." "You're right. I know you're right, but of course it had to be today that I slept poorly." Fall yawned and pulled his cloak on as well. "Let's get to it then." Written by DragonCloudBurst  x
