Biography

"Guardian dragons see the failure to keep their chosen charge safe as a terrible blight to their honor, and most will pine away rather than live with the shame of their failure."

Tick didn't fail to protect his Charge. It's just that he figured Sornieth might be a bit better off, on the whole, if his Charge just so happened to have something terrible befall them. Tick chose to not protect his Charge.

Of course it's not like you can expect other dragons to understand a thing like that.

Tick is one of the oldest dragons in Clan Lambent and formidable despite his size and tattered wings. He's small, for a male Guardian, and his wings have been so mangled in battle that the clan healing-mage re-spells their fabric patchwork every couple of days. But enemies who underestimate him regret it, if they survive.

Originally from the Snowsquall Tundra of the Southern Icefield, Tick ended up in the Sunbeam Ruins because of Icechild - they've known each other for longer than Clan Lambent has existed. When Icechild came to the clan, he remembered his old friend, exiled for 'failing' his Charge and not having the good graces to pine away in shame about it. So he sent a message, and a couple months later Tick showed up, willing to swear loyalty to the clan in exchange for, in turn, its protection.

Tick isn't shy about having lost his Charge, and it makes some other dragons of the clan uneasy. Cabana is unfailingly polite to Tick - and literally nobody else on the face of Sornieth. And Revelry can barely speak to him.

Only Icechild knows the whole story of Tick's lost Charge - not that he'll admit as much. Tundras and their poor memories, you know. Tick is also good friends with May, whose age, experience, and battle prowess he admires and respects. He and Andalusite have something of a history (mostly a friendly one,) and lately he's befriended the newcomer Vendaval.

These days Tick guards Clan Lambent's primary residence, a massive cave on the outskirts of the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. Mostly he keeps to himself, but he's always glad when a friend comes to find him.
