Pycno is a shy dragon. He is fairly quiet, and tries to hold back from sharing his opinion or talking much. However, another side of his is always happy and excitable, causing his tail to wag constantly. He is almost never tired and usually stays up most nights. Every other night he sleeps from dusk until dawn, but most nights he stays up, liking to look at the stars and the moon. He is very kind, although he doesn't act on his urges to help people often, usually preferring to keep to himself, afraid he'll mess something up. He is very good at comforting people who need him. He has deep anxiety, often worrying what others think of him and whether he's doing something wrong. Although he never voices these worries, he thinks about them a lot. He is very smart, and has moved up a couple of grades early in his school. He tries not to show off too much, in fear that others won't like him if he does.

When Pycno first dropped his books in the hall at school, Rusty was the first to step forward and help pick them up. She constantly acted like she didn't care about him, insisting that she didn't even like him as a friend, but she will help him with anything he asks for and make sure he feels safe and happy. She would give her life away to protect him. After a week of knowing him, Rusty asked him out, and Pycno, delighted, agreed. They are a happy couple, despite Rusty constantly acting as if she still dislikes him. Pycno enjoys their relationship and loves to hold her talon and love her just because he can. He loves Rusty very much.

When Pycno was first sold to his Handler, he was very confused as to why he was leaving his parents. They had gone strangely cold towards him a couple days before he was bought by his current handler, Mayfly. Mayfly cared deeply for the little Sandsurge, making sure he was safe and happy. Pycno found himself happy for the first time in his short life, and starting to looking after his handler to make sure she is okay and asking constantly whether she needs anything.

He feels a deep connection to both Mayfly and Rusty, and would do anything for them.
