Biography
Ligeia did not begin life as a Nocturne. She became one out of necessity. Her birth clan was oppressive and frightening. She fled them in fear. But the wilderness and the Dark are merciless mothers. Lost in the depths of the Tangled Wood, she had to adapt or die.
It so happened that that young, Imperial hatchling stumbled into the hidden realms of Nocturnes. The way they weaved through brambles, melding with shadows, perfectly matching themselves to every obstacle -- to Ligeia, they seemed the most mysterious, beautiful and well-suited dragons ever made. She tried to learn their ways, but found they only mimicked hers instead. Frustrated, thinking they mocked her, she fled again.
Still, this desire to be Something Else consumed her, and in the desperation of youth, she sought powerful mages who could transform her into that most perfect of species. They warned her this would have consequences for her entire life, but she wasn't listening. Her mind was full of dreams.
Now, Ligeia forever struggles against the adaptive nature of her new species. She wants very much to be her own dragon, to forge her own path, and when she finds herself mimicking others, it greatly upsets her. Some days, she can't even be sure that what she THINKS is her personality really is hers. This can trouble her so deeply that she withdraws from the clan, seeking isolation.
She is a gifted musician and poetess. Creativity soothes her heart, because when others are gathered around, listening to her creations, then she knows she isn't mimicking. Even if her art bears influence from someone else, the moment and the performance are hers alone.
