“I said, give us everything! Now!”
The Ridgeback lowers her head, gazing into her outstretched claw. Gripping at your blade, your head ducks in defiance. It’s not all that sharp, but it’s certainly good for show, and has yielded fantastic results so far. But she hasn’t even twitched, not even as the massive Imperial in your band stomps his paw. “I’ll give you one more chance,” he hisses, tail lashing, body curling in a serpentine strike pose. She still hasn’t looked up. ‘Do what’s best for you,’ you half-muse. You’ve seen what happens when people are brave enough to defy him. Following her gaze, your head tilts. A…watch? “Two minutes and thirty-five seconds. That’s time you’ve wasted, when I could be working,” she mumbles, almost too quiet to hear. Your entire caravan freezes, save for their eyes, which dart to the now positively livid Imperial. Now she’d done it. You’d barely seen him move, but that was no surprise to you. He was fast, a warrior, a survivor. You did this to live, you reassured yourself with a click of your teeth. You did this to– WHAM! Well…that had certainly been fast. But the body on the ground was not the one you’d expected. Twitching feebly, you feel the sudden electricity in the air, and wonder how you’d not noticed it before. Her tail is stretched like a lightning-rod, throat glowing and ready to release another wicked jolt to anyone who dared come close enough. The scouting party had been so sure…but this hadn’t been planned for. “Now, if you’ll excuse me,” she speaks again. The glow had dulled, her pose formal, but frighteningly relaxed. Slipping into her cart’s harness, fastening it around herself, she simply…walks away. “I’m far too behind, and there’s a lovely abandoned lair that I hear has exquisite glass work laid into the architecture. I wish to take notes.” Glass…work? Before you can open your mouth to speak, she’s already set off above the crest of the hill. Your leader, still trembling on the ground, is muttering something. Some dragons have already walked away in sheer disgust. Others stand, dumbfounded. You can barely help the laughter that bubbles into your throat. She was real, after all.
