A little spooky to some, tasty to others?

It wasn't Gembond. Acaelus got bitten (stung? spit upon?) by something else, something in the vast expanses of the Forgotten Caves. Whatever foe it was, the thing had made good on its escape in the ensuing disorder--Acaelus, disoriented, tumbling down from their low vantage point where they'd been casting to sprawl by the dark pool their party had engaged in battle over.

Alarmed, Acaelus's clanmates had gathered them up and made haste from the labyrinthian caves.

It didn't take long for the disorientation to fade. The other symptoms, well. Acaelus was gooey, their flesh aggravated into a near-constant reaction to whatever it was, whatever had attacked them. Oddly, the slime didn't itch. Instead, it carried a numbing effect, prone to chilling them in open air.

Thankfully, Acaelus wasn't the only denizen of Clan Ochiba to lead a 'gooey' existence. Nor was Acaelus prone to dramatics, quitting, or whining. As soon as they were permitted out of the hospital wing they hurried to find Prajna and, in doing so, found a knowing ear and, in seemingly no time at all, a friend.
In the following days, Acaelus discovered mint-colored bands starting to appear along their wings, shoulders, forearms. The growths didn't hurt, nor even itch, but--most curiously--they glowed in the dark. Here, alas, Prajna had little advice to offer.

Slowly, over the span of weeks, the bands expanded to form the caps of mushrooms. Their flesh was delicate, not unlike the thinnest of suede materials. As they grew to maturity, Acaelus found, as the growths were nerveless, that they could gently talon them free, or--for the harder to reach growths down their back--that the healers in the hospital wing could use fine blades to remove them.

More curiously still, the mushrooms, after being ingested by one of Clan Ochiba's ever-wily and ever-curious Aether dragons on a pass through the hospital wing after Acaelus had departed (Acaelus was not informed as to whom), were found to have sedative properties. After further tests to ensure they posed no concerns of toxicity, the Clan's healers proposed that, when Acaelus grew weary of the size of the growths, they might take them for use as a sleep aid for the denizens of the Clan.

Prajna, having joined Acaelus on this particular visit to the hospital wing, suggested that, with the Clan standing to benefit, the least they might do would be to financially reimburse Acaelus, seeing as how Acaelus could no longer join in combative expeditions. This suggestion was readily adopted, leaving Acaelus with appreciable side income as well as time to discover other potential interests and pursuits safely ensconced within Clan Ochiba's home in the Fortress of Ends.
