Galilei was called back to her home flight, as all Heralds are from time to time. This time, however, she returned later accompanied by a pair of a newly rediscovered ancient breed, Sandsurges. Both the male and the female were heavily augmented and attuned to Galilei's energy and emotions. The male, aligned to the same flight as his Herald, was given the ability to store power and pump it back into Galilei so that she could go above and beyond her limits in truly exceptional situations - which seemed to be coming more and more often nowadays. Tycho brusquely gave his name before settling with his mate Nova in the dwelling next to Galilei's.

Tycho faced a terrible accident while tending to a spire, leading to his body being so ruined he could only be saved by intense intervention. The augments that make him a prime missionary candidate for a Herald are also what saved his life. Out of gratitude to the engineers that saved him, Tycho volunteered for service to the Stormcatcher and thus found himself partnered with Galilei, one of the Stormcatcher's most successful Heralds along with Nova. While he could never dream to master the divine power of Lightning straight from the source as Galilei does, his augments make him able to hold some of that power within his body indefinitely until his Herald needs the boost. While his purpose is to overcharge her, he is mindful that if he gives too much, she could destroy herself trying to protect the world. It is his job to see that she doesn't.

Whenever Nova comes up in conversation, Tycho will wax eloquent on her work ethic and skill in her field. How gracefully she can dive into the earth then pop up out of nowhere to surprise a target, how nobly she will throw herself into danger, how skilled she is at using her robotics in a pinch. One would think him in love with her, but he will never say so of his treasured coworker. He merely lives, works, and relaxes in her presence most of the time, that doesn't mean he likes her!
