It's difficult to watch your once powerful family dwindle down to the last embers of relevance. Can anyone even remember my close relatives? What did they do aside from spend from the hoard their ancestors built, and cower in the opulence that they inherited? My offspring are the last bit of political power I have- I'm able to fritter them away so that anyone trying to claw their way up to a semblance of being someone can marry their way up. At least for now. One day, they'll all figure out that we're probably on the same level as the rest of them. Each year a little more of our dignity is chipped away- eventually the rot will reach the heart.
