Every creature that lives inside the Behemoth has it's place. From the eldest Auraboa to the smallest grub, each thing is accounted for in the work of tending to the great tree.

To Basil, it's all terribly boring. Loop after loop after loop of the same days, the same seasons, the same colleagues and bugs and weeds. As soon as the hatchlings get strange, he's ready to investigate. The present is a strange thing to consider, but consider it he does. Focusing his entire being on the motion of the grubs in the dirt, he realizes how very small each moment is. How precarious the current time, with no knowledge of the future and no thought to the past. He practices speaking with their guests, learning in tandem with the hatchlings about pronunciation and tense.

When the hatchlings are declared ready to leave their home, Basil accompanies them. Over strange lands, through strange skies, the place where their odd party lands is the strangest of all. The glow of a wretched gate casts a sickly pallor over the cliffs facing it, the watchful plants and careless creatures.

And when some of those careless creatures pass by Basil, clamouring about the loss of their companions, he can feel the pull of their emotion. A loose end, an unfinished circle. Focusing all of his being, he attunes with the stars, from whom he plucks the other end. As soon as the Loop is complete, Kyrian and Nyssa tumble forth, tangled and vicious and alive.
