Life is difficult for a Mere working in a trickster's caravan. A trade that relies so heavily on the practice of Cabinetry has no space or patience for a being with no natural Cabinet talents... Yet, the Jongleur was created in the spirit of the underdog and the outlaw, like all of the caravans; and when Fortinbrie appeared in the midst of their tents one midsummer during a show in the east prairies, her leg in shambles and two of her ribs broken, she didn't need to beg too hard.

Still, her presence is accepted with some wariness. The Jongleur is known for its Cabinetry contingency in particular, and with such influential figures as Sully Waltz and the Ringmaster at the helm, there is a definitive anti-Themian sentiment running through the caravan. Fortinbrie has learned, through harsh trial and semi-frequent error, to keep her head down and her sleeves drawn over her tell-tale white skin.

The girl is reticent to talk about her past – or anything at all, for that matter, given the language barrier. She faces life with a down-to-earth cheeriness, since a smile is translatable no matter the context, raking muck and feeding the caravan's menagerie without complaint or ambition. Whatever her life previously, this is somehow preferable... The shy Nightmare that keeps Fortinbrie company is her only real friend, and she enjoys its companionship, even if she is not quite sure why it is so attached to her. No doubt the creature was overlooked in the larger-scale plague of Nightmare now afflicting the Jongleur. Perhaps this oversight will eventually prove unwise.
