Patron demigod of journeys (returning home)

Once a victorious general, Nike and his crew were ambushed by a lightning storm on their voyage home. The ship sank to the bottom of the ocean, where the crew perished and their bones laid to rest.

Or not.

Drawing on the power of his demigod parents, Nike fought to the very end. Some say he even tried to fight the storm itself. At the end of it he was exhausted, and as he succumbed to his fate, his desperate tears ran black and stained the sea, turning it dark as the night. His very essence drained out of him, seeping into the sea bed below. As his eyes slipped shut for the final time, all he could see was rows upon rows of glowing kelp.
Colour bleaches quickly under the sea.

Kelp glows unnaturally, golden roots reaching into the sea bed and anchoring themselves to the long abandoned bones below.

Many storms and shipwrecks later, a story brought back by a lucky survivor goes as follows: "When the ship went under, I swam as hard as I could. I lost strength and was pushed under, and I saw this strange patch of glowing seagrasses, so I swam towards it, as one would."

"There was this odd little fellow: completely white, eyes and all, but the water trailed black behind them. The kelp moved with them, and then I was brought to the surface again. By then, the sun was out, and then I found the rescue boat."
