In order for Phantomflux to infuse androids — such as Aber-Tech models, and the like — with certain elemental abilities, they must utilize a fluid that is 'natural' enough for these elemental abilities to bind to. In order to achieve this, the fluid must be harvested from dragons of that elemental alignment.
Androids and pharmaceuticals both use this fluid, as androids with elemental abilities are required for certain areas — and in the case of pharmaceuticals, many important substances such as cures and vaccines are also synthesized from this fluid. It is also able to be utilized in genetics and surgeries, such as genetic engineering or a replacement for blood in a blood transfusion.
The Extraction Chamber is located directly underground Phantomflux tower — it is referred to as the 'ground floor' in the blueprints of the building itself. It was constructed here due to its massive power requirements, as it is located very close to the Boltstruct reactor.
The Extraction Chamber utilizes a highly potent substance to produce this fluid — the subject is first injected with the substance itself, allowing it to begin its process. This substance essentially liquifies the internal organs of the subject, including the nervous system and such. After the process is completed, the produced fluid is drained from the remaining 'shell' — the subject's skin, skeletal structure, eyes, and a thin layer of flesh and muscle. This shell is then discarded, or utilized for assimilation into the hive.
This process is conducted while the subject is still alive. Deceased subjects cannot be extracted due to the risk of contamination.
The survival rate of the procedure is 0%. It is common for the subject to be paralyzed or immobilized in some manner.
Due to the confidentiality of the fluid's production process, the 'subjects' utilized are often ex-Phantomflux personnel or failed living genetic experiments.
Occasionally, when a subject presents a significant problem concerning the extraction of the fluid, the subject will be placed into a machine similar to a hydraulic press to extract the fluid. This often happens with dragons that have thicker hides, and those shells often cannot be repurposed due to the compression. They are incinerated.
