i wanted to drive your heart
through a stake
if only it would dissipate
the wrathful incantations of my youth

if there were some part of you
that i could capture
that i could keep to myself
then maybe i'd be human again

in my wake there is nothing
no slavering drooling monsters
no conjurations of madness
no invocations of fury
no proclamations of strength

cast aside my obligations
shirking off my anxious wishes
knowing nothing but derelictions
and the shame of aborted commitments

but i'm tinged with something
unrecognizable and vile
something reminiscent of a better time
for all the worst reasons

and all the pictures left of my memories
are those of heartbreak and abuse
cyclical attitudes belying evil intent

and very many things done to me
that i cannot ever forget
