Obsidian had never felt a strong attachment to her clan, despite being a loved mother and having a caring mate. When she finally made the decision to leave, not even her mate, Kiba, knew he could stop her. She went to serve under The Arcanist, the god of her realm from which she hatched. The Fae was a simple and loyal underling, blindly following orders indirectly from her Deity. Her whole life became about following commands, combating various other flights and beastclans. Due to her loyalty, she gained a small reputation. It was enough to get her moved up in The Arcanist’s ranks, which required her to be closer to The Observatory. Being deeper in the Starfall Isles, Obsidian felt a stronger connection to her element. With time, she found that she had an affinity for magic, particularly with regeneration and healing. For quite some time, Obsidian worked dutifully for her flight and her God, yet she still felt an unrest in her life. She had caught wind that her past lair had changed allegiances to The Plaguebringer. Feeling somewhat betrayed and confused, she also found that she was curious about this decision. She had been disconnected from her past for so long, yet she felt a calling from them. Having a heart of Arcane, the little dragon was filled with the need to pursue knowledge of these events. She had hundreds of questions; Why they had made this change? What did the Plague flight have that Arcane did not? What was her past family like now? Did they miss her? Or had they forgotten her altogether? Curiosity got the best of Obsidian and she left the Starfall Isles for the Scarred Wasteland. As she started to enter the Plague territory, she found that it was a nightmareish land, filled with injured and mutated creatures. She often tried to heal the poor things with her abilities but due to the innovative nature of Plague magic and the inhabitants of the land, her healing either never lasted long or it furthered the transformation more. The farther into the territory she went, the more and more her magic corrupted, to the point where it would backlash onto her. She would receive different markings, scars, wounds, and even dramatic mutations over the course of her journey. Obsidian felt bad for the Plague dwellers, they were injured and scarred and broken folks in her eyes. It baffled her that even when they were in poor condition, in a literal Wasteland, they were satisfied more or less. They never were as lost as they looked, they were very content with who they were, where they were, and what they were doing. Seeing this in the followers of The Plaguebringer brought her some peace, hoping that her forgotten family found a similar fate here. When she finally reached the Wyrmwound, the region where the lair she was searching for now resided in, she was an entirely different dragon then when she had left her home. Her magic revealed her tertiary colors in the form of runes, her other traits came out through various failings of her attempts to heal those in the more inner sectors of the Scarred Wasteland. Finally, her entire physiology changed, slowly at first, but eventually into a full Nocturne. She was conflicted even moreso now, she was literally a different dragon from when she had left. She worried the family she longed for would not only be unable to recognize her, but reject her. By reflecting on the events of her journey through the Plaguelands, Obsidian was given a new spark of life- she wanted this closure she desperately longed for, even if it ended in rejection. She found contentedness in the discomfort as she found in the dwellers of this new land. When she approached the border of her clan’s new home- a much larger territory than she left it- she was greeted by her old mate who was doing his never-ending patrol. He seemed to recognize her, but not quite. She introduced herself and asked for his time so she could explain why she left, why she came back, and why she looked as she did. Kiba was overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions, he explained that there was no resentment for her leaving, and he understood why she did, and was happy to have her back. Her old clan immediately accepted her and placed her high in the ranks, there were many new faces, and seldom familiar ones, but she was relieved and overjoyed. She had found her place in this world. |
