A crater lies in the middle of the city, encapsulated by a barrier containing a strange hatchling slumbering. As if it is a cradle meant to pacify the being within, the barrier serves the purpose of not keeping others out, but to keep him in. Mana overflows out of him, captured by the barrier to power the city. Accompanied only by a creature able to withstand the overwhelming mana, he sleeps, occasionally waking to discharge his excess energy.

Little is known about his true origins and attempts from Hana to dive deep into his subconsciousness have only resulted in heavy resistance against her psyche, leading to her stopping the attempts lest she gets killed. However, the Elders have a hunch that he might be related to the disappearance of a powerful Arcane mage known to explore dungeons and absorb mana of Shade-touched monsters as his appearance looks eerily similar to that of the mage as a hatchling. He also coincidentally showed up in the Starwood Strand right after news of that got out. As such, it is theorised that he got cursed with eternal youth from a peculiar mana source he had absorbed and his body can no longer contain or control the vast amount of mana he holds as a hatchling.

Very recently, several figures seemingly made out of concentrated elemental mana are starting to take shape around him. Perhaps this is his own attempt at keeping his overflowing mana in control…?

Alrescha had the misfortune of encountering him first while returning from a training trip with her trainees and had to hold him back while the trainees escaped back into the city to call for backup. Though the mana overflowing out of him was unstable and unfocused, it was still rather overwhelming due to its sheer quantity that it took the entirety of the Elders, consisting of four dragon members at that time, and hundreds of graduates living in the Dominance Barracks to subdue him. Seeing the dangers of leaving him alone and great potential for his mana in the development of the city, Seiya got to work immediately on technology to contain and harness his incredible mana.

Unable to gain insight on his origins with Hana’s skills, he was nameless until he was able to be conscious without overwhelming his surroundings with his overflowing mana. Unfortunately for him, that means he was constantly restrained by the party, for the safety of himself and his surroundings - at least until the construction of a specialty container for him is complete.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Cradle’s Construction ▬▬
It was all hands on deck for the construction of the specialty container. Aptly named the ‘Cradle’ as it is made to contain a hatchling, it is strategically located right in the middle of the city to ensure that any mana captured can make its way to all corners of the city in equal time. Under Seiya’s direction, the non-dragon residents got to work in procuring materials and constructing the megastructure while the dragons work in shifts to guard and restrain the hatchling. The first attempt at powering up the megastructure with the hatchling within was quite a spectacle indeed, with the ground the Cradle is constructed on collapsing into a crater under the influence of his overflowing mana. It turns out that they had forgotten to line the ground with the barrier, much to the dismay of everyone as they had to reconstruct the entire thing.

▬▬ Awakening ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Much fanfare was had when the megastructure was completed once again as dragons gathered inside around the hatchling as they awaited his awakening. Non-dragons, most having bodies that are unable to withstand his overflowing mana, watched his awakening from a safe distance on a projection right outside the megastructure.

“ Friend? ”

He asked innocently as he raised his head and stared at the horde of curious dragons surrounding him. That was his first word when his eyes opened and its significance is etched into his name as ‘Tomodachi’. Everyone watched in awe at the hatchling - they expected more resistance from him for keeping him restrained all this while, instead he is like any other hatchling! Due to his adorable and harmless looking appearance, it did not take long for him to rise to the ranks of being the city’s mascot living right at its heart.

While his overflowing mana no longer wrought destruction to his surroundings and is absorbed by the barrier to power the city, it still remains dangerous to touch him directly as some dragons in attendance learnt the hard way. Nonetheless, what is a little pain and risk to battle-ready dragons? Giving Tomodachi a little pet on his head upon a trainee’s graduation has since become a long-running custom of the city that many trainees look forward to and ability to withstand his overflowing mana became a testament to a dragon’s strength. Amongst the non-dragons, offering hatchling toys and treats to him via a graduating trainee dragon is also believed to bring good luck, with many dragons happy to be of service as those offerings tend to draw out greater bursts of mana, colloquially known as ‘zoomies’. Afterall, even regular hatchlings exhibit similar behaviour, albeit way less dangerous!
