Everyone has a story to tell, and Nayeli takes it upon herself to collect those stories and spread them through song. So, everyday, messages arrive, encased in scroll cases tied with bits of green ribbons.
But something different is in store today.
Her calloused fingers grip her guitar as she sits on her porch, strumming a folk song. The melody is soon interrupted by the cheerful greeting of the mailman who reaches into his bag to present her with a gift. She sends him on his way quickly before her eyes turn towards the package in her hands. It's a box wrapped in shiny orange foil with a large yellow bow on top.
Opening it, she finds a note laying inside. The paper is wrinkled and she can see wet spots.
"Thank you for your help! I got to return home! The leaders of my clan reevaluated their ruling, and I heard it was because they received hundreds of letters. Said they heard your song and felt moved by it. Can you believe it? Anyways, thank you again. You’re always welcome to visit if you come by."
She smiles as she tucks the note away, though a single worry remains on her mind. She doesn’t mind that someone’s made copies of her music without her permission--not when it’s let someone go free. No, the problem is the publicity. It would help her career, but the thought of someone trying to pry into her life makes her skin crawl.
Still, that’s a problem for another time. Today, she has a letter to write and a gift to finish unpacking.
