Hoarfrost

Hoarfrost used to lead his own clan, in the furthest and coldest reaches of the Reclaimer’s Glacier, and under his hard-fisted rule, only the strongest were allowed to stay in the clan, and therefore survive, as few could survive the area on their own. Anyone who didn’t meet Hoarfrost’s standards was exiled, and sent out in the cold to suffer. Anyone who could stay was forced to work impossibly hard to scrape by and continue to meet Hoarfrost’s harsh standards.

Finally, everyone had enough. Hoarfrost’s supposedly loyal clanmates, ruled by fear, turned on him — and revealed that they had been harboring the so-called exiles, secretly providing food, warmth, and company, and helping them survive. They announced that they rejected Hoarfrost’s philosophy of survival-of-the-strongest, and they wanted to work together to help each other survive — and the only way to do that was to oust Hoarfrost and his tyranny.

For the first time, Hoarfrost found himself exiled like he had exiled so many others, alone in the cold and bitter wilderness. Totally alone. He wandered and wandered through the Southern Icefields, until he came across a chance encounter — he found Subzero’s polar research lab. Subzero had been so focused in on his own research that the rumors of Hoarfrost’s cruelty had never reached his ears. Hoarfrost was able to present himself as a poor lost wanderer, and Subzero took pity on him and welcomed him into his lab.

Hoarfrost’s original plan was to infiltrate Subzero’s home lair and take it over as its new leader, and start his tyranny from scratch. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long; the Clan of the Striking Bolt saw right through him and forced him into the role of an ordinary survivalist. Now, Hoarfrost’s days are confined to teaching other dragons to survive in the cold wilderness, and especially so staying with Subzero in his polar research lab to help keep the expedition leader alive during the coldest months of the year. During his parts of the year at Electrician’s Edge, Fever, as a fellow survivalist, has reluctantly agreed to keep a close eye on him and to quickly shut down any rebellious behaviors. At the end of the day, Hoarfrost is little more than a prisoner to the clan.

Like Subzero, Hoarfrost’s years are split between the cold, biting harshness of the Southern Icefields and the heat haze and static air of the Shifting Expanse — but unlike his companion, Subzero, who he has nothing but disdain for, Hoarfrost does not prefer the Southern Icefields, despite his origins there. Because unlike Subzero, Hoarfrost still has clanmates who harbor a lot of well-deserved hate for him. And Hoarfrost is very, very aware that if they ever got the chance, they would not let him survive twice.
