”Just my luck...”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bad luck follows Jinx wherever they go. Lightning strikes where they stand, houses crumble where they enter, and flowers wilt in their wake. They can't help it; whether from some unknown curse or simply a cruel twist of fate, wherever Jinx travels, an accident is waiting to happen. This has left Jinx quite a gloomy and forlorn fellow; they don't want to cause any trouble, but although they secretly long to have a friend, trying to mingle seems to only put others in danger. And so Jinx travels alone, hoping to find a place where his bad luck can only harm himself.

I woke up this morning to the smell of smoke. It finally happened...at least I could save the crow's nest living in the branch next to me before the tree collapsed. Those poor birds...

A burning branch fell on my wing before I could escape. Guess I'll be traveling on foot for a while.

On my way South I bumped into a pack of Mirrors. That would've been the end of me, if it wasn't for a couple of Imperials chasing them off. One of them turned out to be a healer. He changed my bandages and invited me to stay at their town... Well, more like he dragged me there.

It was nice to finally have a proper rest. I stayed on the outskirts for a few days, and the healer helped me recover. I still couldn't fly, but decided to move on as soon as my burn stopped weeping.

I stumbled into a large clan on a beach shore, and they were pretty friendly, which was nice. They offered to let me train with some of the dragons fighting in the coliseum, but I turned them down. I didn't think that was such a great idea with my luck. I decided instead to hang out with a few of the hatchlings. They were babies, and babies couldn't do much harm.

Well, that's what I thought, anyway. One of the baby Mirrors (another Mirror dragon, just my luck...) went after my leg as a joke. But I'm much more fragile than him, so it was very painful and I bled a lot...one of the healers bandaged my injury, but I think it's a good idea if I get on my way before someone else gets hurt.

Hopefully, the next place I stop will be a little less dangerous...or at least have fewer Mirror dragons.

I stumbled (literally...) across a patrol of Longneck on my travels. They took pity on me, and they wanted me to rest in their building until my leg recovered. I told them I thought that was a bad idea, but they insisted...I just hope nothing terrible happens.

Eating dinner with them, I almost felt at home...they weren't afraid of me or anything, and they had such good senses of humor. I wish I were as good as conversation as they are, but they still tried to make me feel welcomed. Their little ones were really excited to meet a dragon, too. It was quite a nice night.

Maybe things are looking up for me...

I'm writing this in the middle of the night....somehow, while I was sleeping, the roof caved in. I feel horrible. I just know it was my fault. I should have never imposed myself in their home.

Luckily, no one was hurt...well, no one besides me. Their leaders thanked me profusely for rescuing the kids, and they tried to assure me that it would be an easy repair. I know better, though. I wish I could help them fix everything up, but I just know I'd break it more...I left them some treasure to cover the expenses, though. Hopefully the coins aren't cursed, like I am.

My, it's been awhile since I've written. I had a stop at a clan known as the "Lavender Plague" which was led by a very weird Nocturne... So many mirrors here too. A whole group are explorers. I've managed to stay away from them but I ran into another problem; four little aberrations. I've been whacked in the head with a ball of snow and ice, I and another I was with got stuck in what seemed to be jam, then got sunburnt after. I guess I'm just not good with kids... Other than that, my bad luck somehow didn't seem to bother anyone, especially the dolls. Many were kind, and some were sad to see me finally leave. At least, that's what they told me...I wouldn't blame them for telling a white lie. I'll miss them, though. As of now, goodbye my dear journal.

I arrived at this beautiful clan, however, the bright colours gave me quite a headache. There were so many breeding pairs! I stayed far from the hatchlings so as to not hurt any of them, although one little one was infatuated with me, asking if I could find her sister who left to travel! I assured her she wouldn't want to travel with me, but she said since her sister left she has nothing left to lose so I guess I'll accompany her to her next destination, but then we shall part ways, so my bad luck doesn't hurt her. Her name was Droplet, and she said her sister looked just like her, but her name was Bubble. Just before I finished writing this, the whole camp flooded and we had to evacuate. Just my luck, but she still wanted to travel with me to my next destination. Oh well, I guess I can't really stop her.

I meant to write this sooner, but I just couldn't find the time. Anyway, I'm staying at this beautiful underground city called Cragenmire City. It's so different from anything I've seen before! Dragons enter and exit from the manufactured lava tube open ceiling, or the dark tunnels that Cragenmire used to be. Apparently it's a modestly bustling hub for traveling dragons like myself as well!

When I was leaving my room, I accidentally bumped into another traveler, Cordelia, who was rushing to keep her eggs warm. I didn't mean to, I swear, but it seems my bad luck has followed me even here. I'm just glad she didn't actually have any of her eggs on her - if she'd been holding one, I shudder to think what might've happened to it. Anyway, I think I've been here long enough. It's back on the road for me, or else I just know I'll cause something even worse. Let's hope there isn't a cave-in before I can go...

I guess a clan that's in the Scarred Wasteland couldn't be such a bad place for me to visit... they're already quite used to having to survive in tough circumstances.

Luckily, Crow Callers has some rather sturdy buildings. As I came in, I let the clan know about my constant bad luck. They seemed rather understanding of me, realizing that it wasn't my fault. I was quickly informed of what places I may wish to avoid, due to how dangerous they can get.

I met an Aberration known as Milo during my stay. It turns out that he has a rather similar affliction - and I thought that I was the only one! I felt pretty bad for him; as of now, he's just a hatchling. I'm pretty sure my bad luck has been following me ever since I was his age, too, but... poor kid.

Unlike what I usually expect about Aberrations, it turns out that Milo's two heads (separately known as "Mi" and "Lo", in the case they're individually addressed) almost always agree with each other. He explained that it's because he's constantly trying to protect himself and scout out danger, which makes sense. I kinda wish I had two heads for the same reason - maybe my extra eyes can help with that somewhat.

I was getting along with Milo very well. He asked me if I had any idea what caused my curse - and really, I don't. I learned that Milo hatched on Friday the 13th, and that's his guess on why he's affected with his curse. I could see that.

At some point, I was getting fairly bored. I asked Milo if he was interested in exploring with me a little - he liked the idea, but mentioned that it was probably best if we let Nathaniel and SUPERFLY, his caretakers, come with. I agreed. Given both of our experiences with bad luck, it'd be best if we could have someone to supervise us in case something went wrong.

...Indeed, something went wrong. As we were exploring, Milo and I were caught in a rockslide. I was briefly knocked unconscious, and when I came to, the two Spirals and I spent a long time frantically looking through the piles of rocks to find Milo.

To our relief, when we found Milo, we saw that he was still alive. He was injured, and only barely conscious - but he was still alive. I realized once the initial shock wore off that I was suffering some injuries as well.

We were brought to the clan's main doctor, Patriot, to see what the extent of the injuries was. Luckily, he deduced that none of our injuries would cause significant lasting damage... but I still felt horrible about what I had done. It was my idea to go on that exploration, and I nearly got the poor kid killed.

I decided to stay in the clan for a little while longer. Both Milo and I were able to recuperate as normal, and he was already growing up to be a rather strong, young Aberration.

I wished him luck before proceeding to go on my way again.

I've heard the rumours that all traveling dragons pass through the Windswept Plateau eventually - I just never considered it would apply to me so often. With my luck, I'll just cause the winds here to stop flowing again (like that one time)...

My bad luck seems to have temporarily run out! I'm staying with a lovely little wind clan, right by the Twisting Crescendo. Unfortunately, this usually means my bad luck is collecting and will strike all at once. I hope to be on my way before that happens.

11/01/2023
I descended lower to the Singers Brook and met a nice secluded clan of dragons. And get this- their rulers are Fae like me! There's a really pretty girl, Maybelle. I hope nothing bad happens to her clan...

Bad luck finally struck. Me and Maybelle laid a nest but of our three eggs, only two hatched. As much as I'm grateful for my two new boys, I don't think I can stay. I see the way the elders whisper about me and my 'bad luck curse'. Maybe I should just go... I'm sorry.

Uh-oh, looks like this bad luck charm wandered a little too far from their home lair (633029, BigB0yJENKINS), and now they're off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, they'd really appreciate it if you could just return him/her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but they would be very grateful!
