Biography

H E L I O S
Alchemist | Brewmaster | Excitable | Destructive

Helios was practically dumped on the Runelight Hallows doorstep, a lost hatchling(not actually) who'd only been passed around from clan to clan. The Hallow soon found out why he'd been kicked out of so many clans.

The first day Helios set up his brewing workroom, he nearly destroyed the clan. His experiments and endeavours always evened up in an often fiery or explosive mess. For a while, Starfall cleaned up after him, shooing away any naysayers. She firmly believed he could learn control in his experiments. But after waiting for her wisdom to prove true, he got worse.

Helios was never great when put under pressure. He feared being kicked out by another clan, yet again. Determined to prove himself useful, Helios attempted to use a magical spell to produce a shield for his workspace, so that any mishaps he came into would only effect the radius of the bubble. But his magic also backfired, and the only thing that stayed safe from his next, explosive experiment was him, and everything within his bubble.

Finally HeartRune regretfully came to him, and asked that for the sake of the clan, he leave. Helios knew that the Runelight Hallow was renowned for their universal acceptance of dragon who had no homes; the misfits of Sornieth could always find a home there. Helios would be the first dragon who had been kicked out.

On his last day in the clan, a young coatl, just a hatchling, arrived in the clan. She was fresh from the shells of her nest, but seemingly brilliant in every way. She knew, too, that Runelight Hallow was a place for the cast-off dragons, for the desperate and weary. She was a kindered soul, also unable to find her place in the world. She firmly stood by the idea that the Hallow COULD find a place for these dragons. And she was determined that he would find his place as well. Convincing HeartRune to let him stay, Elowen found him a home in the most isolated parts of the clan territory; the cave systems. A few dragons were already living there, tucked into the side of the cliff were they could access the strait between the Ruins and the Labyrinth.

Her brilliance save Helios, and his new home was a sure-fire success. He happily worked away in his new den, refining his abilities with his alchemy and brewing. Only sometimes did the clan experience any quaking or unusually smelling days. He was not often seen, and when he was he would be running around like a crazy lunatic looking for this or that to add to his mixes, or bugging the librarians for help with never ceasing questions.

After the renovations to the caverns, in which put a damper on his work but gave him more time to actually socialize with real dragons, he found out that there were more dragons in the clan than just he that practiced his art. He had of course been the first, but now he had fellow chemists and brewsers to talk with. It became evident that from all the time he'd spent in the ground, he'd grown particularly powerful with his alchemy.

One dragon in particular he'd become close with, who seemed just as mad as he was. The dancing imperial, the architect whom had been hired to renovate the clans caves, he found invigorating to work with. She was always so upbeat and had just as much tireless energy as he had. She knew what it was like to deal with dragons who didn't have the energy to keep up with her. They othen bounced ideas off each other, even when their vocations were nothing alike.

Heiled as a Master of Alchemy, he was given a new workroom, study and common area where he began to teach others his knowledge in the art. He hardly had many disciples at a time, but when he did they always wanted to learn something. Mostly they would assist him in his work, watching him carefully and learning as he did his own thing. They would run around the clan collecting things for him now. It's always chaotic in his chambers, where he was working on thirty different projects at once and never let a single thing go unworked on for long.

In his need for exotic materials, Helios found that he needed to go on excursions outside the clan for them. He started out slow, only flying over to the edges of the Labyrinth for things. But then, facing the beastclans and other enemies made him grow strong, and soon he found help with his adventures. He often goes out with Julian and Aileta, who often help strengthen hatchlings destined for the Lightweavers loving warmth, and in return for helping them, they help him gather things for his experiments.

After a long while, his assistants began to branch off on their own, and the amount of dragons that came around to help him and learn from him ran down into a trickle. Soon, his chambers fell empty but for everything except his PotionMaster Serthis and himself. He'd grown use to having company, and now he longed for another assistant to give him that. He spent time with Arc, his imperial friend, but she could only humor him for a short while before having to fill a contract somewhere away from the Hallow.

And so he sent out an open call for assistants. He though he might find many students with the role, but only one dragon wrote back. She wrote that she would be there quickly, and she was excited to have the company of someone other than her mother and father to learn from. But Helios didn't get any chance to write back, or ask any questions before she came. Because she hadn't even sent the letter through the post, but instead brought it herself and handed it to him personally, because "I just couldn't wait to meet you!"

Skye was brilliant. Her enthusiasm for alchemy and willingness to help gave him a new outlook for his work. She had just as much energy as he had, more since he had grown older and calmed a bit with age. She was spry and invigorating, sharing ideas and all she knew about alchemy to him and in return soaking up all his lessons like a very dry sponge. Somewhere between all their work and play, a spark grew between them. Generally unspoken, they quickly found that their companionship was more than just professional. If it was ever brought up, either of them would just cough, mumble an excuse and find some reason to not talk about it.

Arc makes fun of Helios often, and especially after finding Skye curled around him after they both dozed off while talking about a new project.
