—– Mistress of Nachtmagen 
Hailing from a long line of sorcerers within the Tangled Wood, Thistle is one of the youngest dragons continuing to practice the ancient art of Nachtmagen, a volatile form of shadow magic marked by its complicated reagents, exacting rituals, and disorienting spellwork. Born within one of the few hovels tenacious enough to make their homes upon the shores of the Obscured Crescent, the young nocturne was taught to temper her magical abilities and understand the importance of dark divination. Here, deep within the brambles of the Tangled Wood, clans of shadow dragons discerned worth not from the sun, moon, or clear waters — not when no light dared to pierce the unforgiving canopy of gnarled pines. Her whelphood was instead spent on pilgrimages to the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, where beneath the shade of her father's wings she peered into the Shadowbinder's murk. Despite the deity's attempts to foul the amphitheater, shadowgazers used their spellsight to divine purpose from the dark, seeing it not as an obstacle, but an all-consuming shade that cloaked only that not worth observing. As one of the youngest representatives of the Sparkspeaker Council, Thistle's youth belies a diviner's mind, ever forward-facing and taking care to observe that which may escape the purview of the Goldensparc's impatient politicians. Those native to The Shifting Expanse may care little for superstition, but every good trailblazer knows that exemplary observational skills are tantamount to progress. Caring deeply for tradition, Thistle is key to keeping the Council grounded — a position necessary to avoid growing pains, but one that has earned her criticism for barring innovation. Mentor to Umbra, a Lightbearer from the Foxfire Bramble whose traditional upbringing and sense of duty endeared Thistle to her character.
