Rippleconch OFTEN mistaken at first glance for a beached whale or heap of flotsam, jovial Proteus spends his days dozing on the sand of his secluded cove. He rouses enough in the evenings to collect the crabs from his many traps and trundle them down to Dockside's fishmarket, where he boils them, butters them, and sells them to scholars and sailors out late.
