The neocortex, also called the neopallium, isocortex, or the six-layered cortex, is a set of layers of the cerebral cortex involved in higher-order brain functions such as sensory perception, cognition, generation of motor commands,[1] spatial reasoning and language.[2] The neocortex is further subdivided into the true isocortex and the proisocortex.[3]

Your NEOCORTEX has been with YOU long enough that HE has developed a personality of his own. HE prefers the damp and dark of the caverns, because the light has begun to hurt his eyes. YOU can sympathize, because your own EYES have been damaged time and again throughout the years. It is a PAINFUL process to replace them. HE is one of the oldest NEURONS of your body, EXTRUDED to help ORGANIZE your limbs once the first dozen left your body to OVERSEE and relay your COMMANDS. HE is one of your earliest CREATIONS, while you were still exploring the limits of EXTENSION. YOU were alarmed by the MINDLESS beasts directly before him, and were more CAUTIOUS when INGESTING him. Perhaps this is why your NEOCORTEX has retained enough of the MASS he was before to chose to remain NAMED and ATTIRED, although his AGE means his own MASS has withered to expose cords of MUSCLE and CONNECTIVE tissue. YOUR other NEURONS, long SPECIALIZED into efficient MASSES of little more than FLESH and NEUROTRANSMITTERS, have reported with bemusement the NEOCORTEX requisitioning rolls of his attire to be brought down to the CAVES.

YOU will allow your NEOCORTEX his quirks. As long as the WORK gets done.

LOCATION
Your NEOCORTEX keeps your records in the depths of the GREATWYRM CAVERNS. As a reward for his years of service, YOU have converted a series of chambers into WARM, FLESHY, WELL-MOISTENED SINUSES for his workspace, although he complains of the DAMP ruining the PAPER records.
