"Aw come on, just one story! I really want to know!"

The tired Guardian sighed over the drink he was working on, realizing he wasn't going to get Quint to leave him alone. It wasn't the first time she had found him after docking, still exhausted from his last trip to sea. He imagined, bitterly, that it wouldn't be the last.

"Okay. Just one, you got that?"

"Yes, yes, please please! Thank you!" Quint leapt up to sit in the chair across from him, her head just barely poking up over the ledge. She watched him patiently with earnest eyes, tucking her paws in and curling her tail over them.

"Alright... so this time, we're pretty sure we saw a ghost ship," he started, wracking his brain to think of how he could embellish the story to appeal to the hatchling. "It started off as a ship in the distance, and we thought pirates at first, 'course. It kept following us for a day or two, steadily keepin' up and gaining lead on us. We were prepping for an assault by then."

He paused to take a sip of his drink, letting the bitter flavors seep on to this tongue before continuing.

"About day three, the ship started to catch up, 'cept... it wasn't really solid. Seemed like the light just went through it, at least that's what the crow's nest kept saying. Magic, some of us said. But just as we thought it was gonna catch up on us, a fog rolled in the night. It was... strange. All of us reported weird dreams, some even nightmares, in the morning. And when we looked for the ship?"

The sailor paused, letting Quint stew in her excitement.

"It had vanished."
