Something about the throne changed him, though he denies that it changed him for the worse. Molten gold drips from his mouth when he speaks, and light adorns him like jewelry.

Lethe and Logos were lovers once, united in purpose. They led a rebellion against a tyrannical king and won, intending to take the throne together and finally let the people live in peace. But Lethe sat in the throne and was granted a glimpse of the future: of Logos stealing into the castle with a filigreed dagger and stabbing him in the heart. The vision was too vivid to ignore; broken-hearted, Lethe cast Logos from the castle before it could come true and locked himself away.

The visions that Lethe gains are fragmented and hard to read, and he dedicates most of his time to interpreting them -- attempting to avert the terrible futures he sees. The throne grants him this gift of future-sight, so he rarely leaves the throne room, and the longer he stays there, the more he seems to change. Every time someone enters the room, Lethe is terrified that he will look up and see Logos: knife in hand, here to kill him for his betrayal.

He doesn't know that he would fight it.
