The roar of the crowds. The thrill of battle. The weight of a weapon in hand. The clinking of a filled coin pouch. Retiarius is a guardian with a hunger for such a lifestyle, and oh the way she gets her fill at the Plague Pits. Less commonly referred to as the Bloodpits, the Plague Pits are a somewhat misleading name, having spread all across the eleven territories if you know where to look and which palms to grease, but the name sticks--they originated from the contagion and spread out like a disease on the land and cultures themselves. There are many who would pay for the anonymous entertainment of seeing dragons fight to the death against beastclan and against each other, and a non-zero amount of dragons itching for the thrill of such combat. Dragons such as Retiarius. Retiarius was raised among the beastclan trade caravans that wind though Dragonhome and the territories beyond. She was taught to fish to earn her keep, her sharp eye and quick reflexes making her naturally skilled at the task, and many nights she provided the main dinner course for her companions. She was barely into adulthood when they were ambushed, and her life changed forever. A group of blood hunters, originating from the Pits and searching for combatants that no one would miss. A caravan of beastclan traders with a few young dragons, camping at midnight in the tangled pass between dragonhome and the contagion, certainly fit that bill. It was a hopeless fight, the traders taken by surprise and outnumbered, dragged to the quarantine zone in runed chains. When they threw her to the Pits, they expected her to die. She didn't. Her speed, her perception, her reflexes, all honed from years of fishing, lended their aid in a way she had never expected. Against stranger and friend alike, she fought with a ferocity, desperation, and aptitude none had expected. Like a match to oil, she burst to violent life in the bloodied sand of the Pit, head hammering with cheers and roars. When they acknowledged her skill, they let her choose her weapon. Her eyes passed disinterested over all the options laid before her. When she spoke, her request was unexpected to the pit leaders, but for spectacle alone they obliged. Her next fight, against a dragon twice her size, she was armed with a trident and weighted net. and what a spectacle it was.
