Biography

The Forager
Anomaly 7073: Eyes in the Dark

-It/its, Unknown
-Investigation into 7073 and its containment is still considered on-going as of the writing of this document. Site ██-████ is a series of underground caverns that spread out from an opening in Cairnstone Rest to a much larger sprawling system beneath the Shattered Plain, which has been in strict investigation by staff since the discovery of the dragons known as "Obelisks" almost three decades ago now during the expedition known as Dustcarve Dig globally. Our intentions are to discover the exact origins of this breed, as the sudden appearance of an entire breed overnight is unheard of and goes against our most basic understanding of what makes a dragon, as well as to investigate a mysterious series of disappearances that took place far prior to their discovery - chasing the very near possibility of a link between the two. But as our staff have ventured deeper into the caverns, we have run into a problem currently designated as 7073. We first took notice as there became a sudden increase in disappearances amongst staff and volunteer experts from Dragonhome's archaeological teams upon opening the way to a new cavern. In an effort to monitor the issue, staff have set-up extensive surveillance systems, and over time caught numerous sightings of the entity believed to be 7073. As more measures have been put in place to ensure staff safety, such as only travelling in groups and hiring in more experienced magic users as well as an increase in general security around our sites, more stories have slowly filtered in about sightings of 7073 that coincide with our video and photographic evidence of it. Stories of something that seems to glow an unsettling green in the dark, moves so silently it's almost as if it isn't there, and possesses a foul, stinking breath that reeks of sour, stale air and iron which you can feel warmly brush up against your back in the darkest parts of the cavern. It resembles a dragon in shape, but behaves like a beast. Stalking around on all fours, silently trailing behind its victims from a distance in the shadows and only illuminating in warning flashes when it aims to strike. It is unknown at this time what has happened to those taken by 7073. All attempts to contain it have currently failed. All attempts to closely document it have currently failed. All attempts to identify it have currently failed. Please do not attempt these things on your own.
-Not much is entirely known about the entity. Staff at site ██-████ have affectionately nicknamed it The Forager based on speculations about its biology - speculating that based on its behaviours and observed properties, it likely is a physical being who has been surviving in the caverns by journeying up to Cairnstone Rest through a currently undiscovered tunnel system in order to feast on buried dragons, which would account for the disappearances observed during the initial expeditions, the sudden appearances of unaccounted for skeletons, and would explain the Obelisk dragon's bizarre adaptation of turning into stone while slumbering if they were trying to evade a predator in their most vulnerable moments of the day. As well as likely subsiding on some of the scarce life that does exist inside the caverns; moss, fungi, bats, insects, small lizards and amphibians. Its behaviour would pair closest comparison with a large predatory cat, such as the owlcat. The Forager will stalk its prey for several days from a distance, sticking close to the shadows and smaller caverns in relative silence, until it can corner its prey. It then attempts to run them down, chasing them into the smaller, winding tunnels that are much more difficult for our staff to navigate reliably, and has only been successfully scared off thus far with the use of Lightning magic to not only suddenly illuminate the area but also cause very loud noises that startle the creature into retreating. Only one physical attack survivor has been documented, and similar to a species like the parda, The Forager attempted to attack them by biting down on the skull of its victim with intent to crush. Our poor victim was lucky to survive, and may not have if it hadn't been for their thick armoured hide as a Snapper. They are considered highly intelligent and highly aggressive, not something to ever be underestimated by anyone but a fool.
-Not Applicable... presumably.
